Dumbbell Bench Press Vs. Barbell Bench Press16143

Freiguy96 private msg quote post Address this user
I'm 18 years old and I've been lifting for about a year and a half now and there is one thing that still makes no sense to me. When it comes to dumbbell bench i can put up 85's for sets of 8 which is above average for guys my age. But when it comes to barbell bench press i can barely do 185 for 8. Just makes no sense to me why I am so incredibly weak when it comes to barbell. Anyone else have this problem? Or any advice on how to improve my barbell bench press?

There could be a ton of reasons, most likely due to form like @csizemore21 said.

I'm guessing you couldn't do both well when you started. It took practice. If you want a better barbell bench press it takes more than just developing the muscles- you need to practice the movement, perfect your form, and train to improve that lift. -3X

I guess that's true, I've definitely put in way more time with dumbbells than barbell simply cause i was better at it
