me and one of the guys at the gym are asking a question, can you gain mass by using high rep drop sets or dose it have to be heavyweight trianing

You can gain mass using either one. You can gain more mass, more efficiently using straight, heavy sets of 5-12 reps. -3X

Diet is pretty solid but got turned onto drop sets after a summer cut and was wondering if it was worth a shot

Drop sets are very good for hypertrophy, so is going to failure, you should however not overdo neither of them.

For the record, I disagree with the above entirely. Drop sets are great for increasing muscular endurance, but are not optimal for hypertrophy. -3X
