Is it effective to incorporate smith machine exercises into a routine? example is doing incline smith machine for chest after doing flat bench dumbbell press. or should i just do the incline bench?

Free weight > machine weight.
Smith is good if your form isn't great or ur injured but always use free weight.
Because smith machine uses a controlled path o movement, your supporting/smaller muscles don't get used and gain strength. You'll get a lot more from free weight than smith.

The Smith Machine is best used as a coat rack.

Also, perhaps you don't want to wear a shirt when working out because of all the sweat. Put your shirt on the smith machine and it will be easy to find it when your workout is over.

Smith machine is good on occasion to isolate heavy weight. Wouldn't stick to it week after week though. I have read articles about it also being good on occasion after dumbbell/barbell exercise. For example: incline dumbbell press THEN flat smith machine press.
