when doing heavy lifts you want to be explosive and quick. Speed work improves this. Thatd what ive always thought

Well these questions are asked all the time, and its quite a lot of detail that we have to repeat, but in short what @AarronStenner said.

The faster lifter will always be the stronger one. You put the same amount of force benching 185 or 255, it's training your body to be explosive therefore making you stronger.

Yup. The short and sweet answer is what duke said.

In theory you should be pressing a lighter weight, at a faster speed, which results in the same amount of force as a slow heavy press.

Some people advocate going as fast as possible on the pressing motion, and completely blowing up. And others, like myself, use a lighter weight than normal press days, but still a moderate weight. And complete the pressing movement sufficiently without a stalling point. Like some people have trouble transitioning about halfway up where your tris come into play, so if that's the case, use a weight that you can blow threw the motion, but not throwing the bar around. A quick controlled press

Hope that makes sense. Just took my pwo and amped on stims lol
