So, I've read a lot about the stronglifts 5x5 program and have just started. I'm only in my 3rd day but, so far, I'm really enjoying the program. My question is: will the 5x5 program help me build muscle?

The program will help, but your diet will determine if you build muscle.

Thanks for the reply. Could you lay it out for me, in layman's terms, about how much protein, grains, fats, etc. I should eat. Keep in mind that I am not a bodybuilder or trying to get big like a bodybuilder. I'm also not a beginner. I've been working out for a while.

I started running a variation on the 5x5 in November and have added about 4 kg's since then(at the same bodyfat %). I only noticed the changes when i started eating a lot of food. Yeah you can certainly build muscle, in just this short time i have had quite a few close friends and family commenting on it.

I did add extra posterior(back) work as per a lot of peoples suggestions to get the pull/push ratio to 2:1.

Good luck! Andy

@dmiller77 Just make sure your starting weight is not to high on each lift or buy the 2 week mark you will have to deload, possibly. Good luck! its a great workout.

This. I ran 5x5 on a cut in the spring. I enjoyed it a lot, but the weight catches up to you quickly.

Yes! But like others have said you need a calorie surplus to add mass.

Diet > Routine. You can have the best routine in the world, but if you don't eat geared toward your goals, your body will have nothing to build muscle from on a bulk or maintain muscle and lose fat from on a cut.

Gives you the macros to aim for based on lifestyle and goals. The FAQ covers this as well as explains the minor details.
