Hey -

I'm 24 and I've never followed a Bulking or Cutting regime.

I'm getting more out of my gym routine recently, and would like to start a cycle of bulking and cutting. What do you recommend you do first?

I have a bit of fat on my waist that I'd like to see gone before I start a bulk, but maybe that can be dealt with during the cut?

I'm 24 years old.
164.2 lbs

It's winter, go ahead and bulk! You don't have too much fat to cut anyway.

What kind of training do you do?

Bulk for sure. Since you've never followed a bulking regimen before, I suggest you eat in a slight caloric surplus. Some people add way too many calories way too fast and put on way too much fat. The FAQ on the homepage of the forum is a good starting guide.

Thanks a lot guys.

I want to get bigger -

I'm happy with my 164 pound weight. I'd like to be more toned. Do I need to bulk and then cut in order to do this?

So what is it? Do you want to be bigger or are you satisfied being 164 pounds? And you can't "tone" your muscles. Muscles either grow or shrink. You can't "tone". But you can reduce your bodyfat so the muscles you do have are more visible.

You should bulk and put on more muscle. Eat in a slight caloric surplus, gradually increase your calories overtime, watch the scale go up, watch the weights in the gym go up, and you'll put on some quality size.

You've caught me there.

I do want to get bigger then. And then cut down my body fat. I get it now.

If I don't BULK ... and grow my muscles, than there won't be anything there to look more toned.

The CUT then cuts the additional fat gained during the bulk.

Thank you for helping me understand the purpose of a bulk better.
