One day of strength training while bodybuil? Spencer1104 11 9 monthsJsn3004 (2959): You gaining size depends on whether you are or are not in a caloric surplus. Just because you're doing a "bodybuilding type routine" doesn't mean you'll gain more size. You should run 5/3/1 Boring But Big. Eat in a slight caloric surplus, just like the FAQ stated (assuming you read it). You also get to put in your bodybuilding movements like barbell/dumbbell curls, tricep pushdowns, and facepulls.
Back and Leg day 1 or 2 a week? Spencer1104 3 9 monthsframe (55): everything works, do whatever you like more. you can hit body part to failure so it will recover in one week - you will grow, if you like more half-ass workouts not going to failure on one of your gym sessions - you can hit larger body parts twice per week and you still will grow ( you must be able to know your body possibilities perfectly in this case). It all depends on how you like to train, muscle growth occurs if you give muscle enough work...

I wish I started lifting at 15, but didn't start until I was in college. One thing you'll learn is that nobody worth a damn cares about how strong beginners are. They appreciate that you like the sport and work hard. I think you're numbers are good for 15, but never worry about not being strong enough. Just lift consistently and do you. How long would it take to learn to deadlift? DFMaster240 10 5 yearsSchafer240 (1): A helpful thing I did when I started doing deadlifts face sideways to a mirror while lifting and keep an eye on your form, this and keep it light to you get your form dialed

Deadlifts and PHAT. KalletSc 9 5 yearsSwayz87 (9033): When I ran Phat I would switch out the Main lifts every 4 weeks... so legs I switched Squats for heavy Leg presses and Stiff Legged DLs for Regular ones...I would then switch back to squats and Stiff legged after another 4 weeks...

New Balance Minimus McQueef 7 5 yearsBrettDaniels (313): Was thinking about getting the NB minimus as my regular shoe, ive got Otomix Power Training shoes but sometime the ankle support is too much so id like to have the option to switch between depending on what im doing.
Deadlift execution wannabemuscular 18 5 yearsDukenhiemer (23938): I've always trained with the tap and go method. No resting for me. I've always trained with 'the faster lifter is always the stronger lifter.' Blame my power-lifting background. :)
Anyone hit 3:1 on deadlift? Thor 11 5 yearsJusu (618): I pulled 145kgx1 without straps and my weight was 71kg. Now I haven't done deads so I don't know but next week I start doing them again.
Pain in abs after deadlifts haole 4 5 yearshaole (2073): I did try breathing differently too though. I normally hold my breath at the very beginning of the lift and exhale as I move the weight up but I tried holding my breath through the whole lift on a couple lifts to see how it felt and I think that's what did it. I'm gonna start doing some leg raises though
warmup + 8,5,5,3 reps on deadlift good for h luka5z 2 5 yearsmikew (11415): This is similar to 5/3/1 - which is what I do - works really well. Not sure what your 1RM max is but 5/3/1 will have you below your 1RM. It's counterintuitive to "go light" but it works well over the long term. Throw in a deload week every 4th week too. http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/how_to_build_pure_strength

Deadlift - beginner Noobie93 4 5 yearsjeeza_1234 (279): Youll feel your lower back being hit well. 3 key excerises: - bench deadlift squats also throw in bent over rows help the back out :) Most important thing when doing squats or deadlifts even if you are a beginner start low weight to learn technic. Proper technic and gradaul increase in weight is the key :P
Deadlift - what style do you do? brian12 2 5 yearsThor (5028): Regular deadlifts just feel very natural to me. I've never had any issues or niggles, so I'm quite happy sticking with them. I also do stiff legged/romanian on leg day for the hammies.
Deadlifts warrior 4 5 yearsmikew (11415): Agreed with Nyko to do a pyramid (or warm up, then stick in the lower rep range). I would add that you should supplement your DLs with Romanian DLs and bent over barbell rows.
Spotting the deadlift BaiTu 14 5 yearsadam82a (3100): Reminds me of what happened to Zack Khan, detached tendons from hack squatting. That pain, I can't fathom it
DEADLIFTS!! SRorhrbac0808 12 6 yearsseansm10 (906): i havent done deads in so long, SR, you did backsquats after the DLs? and you didnt feel any weaker, do you think itd be much different for doing front squats? i like those much more than back haha
Belts Monster81 2 6 yearsDETERMINED1 (2239): you can swich back and leg day around so that your back is not sore when you do squats or you can buy a belt.... i prefer to use a belt when doing squats regardless...but sometimes like today i forget to take it to the gym

Forearm strength wobbly_91 12 6 yearswobbly_91 (60): Yea I'm only a beginner. Exercises I struggled with were seated row (55kg, 121 lbs) and lat pull down (62kg, 136.4 lbs). So not very high weight. I'll try hanging of the pullup bar at the end of each workout. Any other exercises? I saw one guy doing this thing where he held out a bar with rope attached with weight at the end and he rolled the weight up and down. Surely that'd kill forearms?
which one bosssantana 9 6 yearsThor (5028): He is somewhat right. The emphasis really is upon your erector spinae. Rhomboids, upper/mid traps, levators are only stabilisers. Your lats might get an isometric contraction, but that's about it. Your erectors are a long muscle though - it's just that lat emphasis tends to obscure them, so visually it looks more like lower back development. BB rows probably have slightly more benefit for general back development.
What Can replace Deadlifts? POJelly 7 6 yearsPOJelly (1): My doc told me "Never again". I had surgery to remove a piece of bone that was crushing my sciatic nerve. I still feel a bit of an awkward feeling in my back whenever I bend but I expect that to go away eventually. The Doc originally sent me for an MRI and thats when he saw the Bone fragments and the herniated discs. As for the injury, it's a result of years of football, and krav maga. Thanks for the replies guys. And thanks AKK Ill...

How is my dead lift form? (video inside) VOLSAO 15 6 yearsmikew (11415): Heh - I was kinda joking but not really... with the right form and by pushing your feet into the floor everything just clicks. Then when it's time to lock out reality kicks back in and it's like, "holy shit, I need to concentrate and not drop this weight."

deadlift and straps BaiTu 30 6 yearsjpicot1 (1): you should never let your grip fail you. just because some people can lift without straps doesnt mean you should let your own back and leg development suffer. if you need straps just ensure you throw in some forearm and grip exercises regularly
Deadlifts and abs BaiTu 10 6 yearsseansm10 (906): but yes, they work your whole core, i remember once when i tested my max DL and every ounce of my entire core ached

Sore Ass... Cupcake 9 6 yearssymplycty (132): It's your sciatic nerve, the problem usually emanates from improper form. To mitigate pain sit on a chair/bench and put one foot on the top of the other knee then gently press down on the knee which is elevated. Do this with both legs a few times a day and take care while bending over and rising.
